The Dellorto DHLA carburetor, now discontinued, is widely believed to
be the most sophisticated carburetor of it's type, prompting David Vizzard
to say in Auto Performance magazine, "DellOrto's DHLA produces truly
excellent results... On engines where atomization is a premium requirement,
Dellorto's are superior to everything!"
Before Dellorto stopped production of automobile carburetors,
Dellorto's were fitted as standard equipment to Alfa Romeo, Lotus, and on one Laverda motorcycle used this carb as a stock solution. There were a number of carburetor conversion kits produced for automitive performance usage
including those for 1980`s Ford's English Vauxhalls. Its a great solution for V-twins either American, or Japanese. The beauty of these is that each bore can be jetted separately so that the rear cylinder that runs hotter can be jetted leaner to compensate for the temperature differences. This ensures that both cylinders run at their maximum efficiency. That is of course as long as the manifold keeps the fuel/air mixuture separated in separate manifolds.
The last carburetors Dellorto DHLA's produced were the unique 'tri-jet'
DHLA45's for the Lotus, which as well as an idle and main circuit, has a
power jet circuit for extra enrichment at high revs. This system was also
fitted to the Lotus Esprit Turbo carburetors, which can hold up to 30-PSI
boost pressure.
DHLA carburetors are getting very very rare. We have access to only a few of them which you can see in the DHLA Carburetor link below. Parts however for the most part are readily available.
