Motorcycle Carb installation:
Multi cylinder carbs, especially 3 and 4 cylinder bikes are very difficult to
disassemble and reassemble.
1) Move and strap airbox to top rear of frame area that it occupies by
removing any mounting bolts.
2) Tighten Intake Manifold forward clamps. Leave rear clamps on the intake
manifold loose but on the manifold
3) Ensure that the remaining clamps are round in shape and that the screws
are unscrewed till the screw's end is flush with the back of the nut.
4) Install carbs from the left of the bike. Tilt the carbs upwards so the
engine side of the carbs are above the intake manifold. It is a tight fit, but
it will go. Be careful not to bend the airbox hose clamps or pop the airbox
boots out of their sockets.
5) When the throttle cable area of the carbs is above the #1 (left) cylinder
install the throttle cable. Do the same with the choke cable if you have one.
6) Continue to move the carbs until they are above their respective
manifolds.
7) Push the carbs into the airbox boots after ensuring that the boots and
their clamps are round and not bent up from installation.
8) Rotate the engine side of the carbs down and into their intake manifolds.
Push hard to fully seat them. (Note: A little WD40 is helpful for those stubborn
manifolds)
9) Tighten the intake manifold clamps down. Be sure that none of the tails of
the clamp screws entangle with the throttle mechanism when it is opened and
closed. It is common for the screw to keep the throttle assy from returning back
to its resting place.
10) Release airbox from any straps etc you used in step one and push it
onto the carbs. Install and tighten the airbox mounting screws.
11) Manipulate the airbox boots onto the rear of the carbs and clamp tightly
when all the boots are on. |
