One day after tearing into the original Hitachi carburetors on
his newly aquired project bike, a 1980 Yamaha XS850,
Managing Director, Robert P. Reil, found no carburetor parts, rebuild kits,
o-rings, jets, or gaskets were available for his new restoration project. The carburetors were even
almost impossible to disassemble without totally destroying the non
replaceable jets.
Fortunately he had been a Machinist, Registered Honda
Motorcycle Mechanic, and Robotics/Automation engineer for 5 years in each
career. When he encountered this problem and discussed it with
various owners groups (lists) on the net he decided to put his skills
to work and come up with some solutions to keep these 850's from going to
the scrap yard just because the carburetors could not be cleaned and
repaired by a layman.
In the next year or two a reputation
had been built, he did a few rebuilds for some list members, and they loved
his work. See our references. The business
continued to grow to a point that it became a full time business. Now a
business that has claimed it self on being "The Parts Department that
you WISH your Dealership had".
Robert and his team to this day continue to find ways to
find a way around the terms "discontinued", or "no longer
available" and become a quality resource for those impossible to find
carburetor and other parts. Work is being done at this time to lower costs by having parts
made in Asia in limited volume. We are also starting to fabricate kits for those
models that have nothing available. During the interim we have found ways to provide a full line of
Japanese OEM, and NOS (new old stock) parts as the dealers do as well as an ever growing line of
aftermarket vendors.
So there you are. That's how it all started.
