What's this?
How do I tell if my diaphragm is still ok?
Motorcycle carburetor diaphragms become torn, dry, cracked, and brittle over
time. All of these signs are bad and deem replacement. The diaphragm's function
is to act as a balloon when velocity in the carbs venturi increases. This
pressure differentiation lifts the diaphragm and hence the slide. If the
diaphragm has any holes, cracks, splits, etc. then the pressure will leak
past the diaphragm and not raise the slide at the correct rate or at all
in some cases.
Availability:
The problem is that many OEM's have discontinued carrying the Throttle
Slide/Diaphragm assembly. Some vendors (K&L Supply specifically) do supply aftermarket
slides. But sometimes there is just no replacement available. So then
what? Have us re-diaphragm your slide. Chances are that we can either
provide OEM, or aftermarket slides, or have them re-diaphragmed.
We are able to service most models. Contact
us if you have a special application and we will see if we have the molds
for that diaphragm available.. The average price is $110 per slide and a
one time $80 setup charge per order..
Diaphragm repair, the way it works:
Send us your diaphragms and we will press apart the folded retainer and slip
off the retaining washer. Refit the slide with a new custom molded Nitrile
rubber diaphragm and press the retainer back in place. Special jigs are
used on this precision job to ensure quality.
Diaphragm repairs will have an additional $80 setup charge added to
each order. Each type of diaphragm needs machine shop setup. These setups
are for both the manufacturing of the diaphragm rubber, and the work
necessary for the installation of the diaphragm. This setup charge is
incurred on each order weather you repair one or one hundred diaphragms.
Keep in mind this is a low volume last resort solution to diaphragm
replacement and that is why the price is as such. There is just no other
way to provide this service at this time for any less.
Shipping and Handling from our location to you in the US is $6.95 for
the first slide + $1.00 for each additional. The
turn around time is 3 weeks.
